The Young Money ship has been under constant pressure. Lil Kim on Nicki, Jay-Z on Wayne and now Toronto rapper Drake has been hit with attack after attack. Earlier it was Atlanta’s Ludacris and most recently Chicago’s Common. Common releases his diss, a freestyle over Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin”, sold by common as a remix, the original track features French Montana and none other than Drake. More after the jump.
Common, whose last album was released December 20th 2011 titled “The Dreamer / The Believer” selling 88k in two weeks (just shy of a Gold certification), seems to be playing the role of the disgruntled rap vet trying to reclaim former glory. That cant be Common right? Setting his targets on Drake (whose last album Titled “Take Care” was certified Platinum is two weeks) Common angrily throws out insults such as “soft and sweet” but these comments seem a little misplaced coming from the peace-promoting spoken-word virtuoso. Sure Drake with his singer/rapper flip flops doesn’t come across as a “hard” rapper but Common, who did feud with Ice Cube a while back, was on commercials for “Gap” selling Ugg Boot Jackets... C'mon bro. To make matters worse both Common and Drake were involved with tennis star Serena Williams so maybe its about a woman.
This whole beef thing is actually pretty lame and nobody knows what the hell Common is really mad about. This can’t be a case of “hard rapper trying to expose fake hard rapper”, someone needs ask common “Yo bro, You mad?” The only answers I can come up with are:
- Old rapper trying to come back.
- Serena Williams
- Young Money / Good Music rift
In my opinion those are pretty weak on Common’s part. He shouldn’t need to play the old rapper role; dude has 9 albums, 2 Grammys, and more movie parts than many actors and no way in hell is it acceptable to be mad over a woman In 2012. Young Money and Good Music have been accused of going back and forth but there's no official word on that So Common, What’s the beef??
